For Lisa's bridal shower party, my mother cut out wedding and golden anniversary photos from a local newspaper feature, and mixed them up for two teams to try to match. It was harder than the guests expected! Everyone had a great time with the game, and more importantly, it inspired conversation about marriage among the different generations of women. Because of the enthusiastic response, we turned the idea into a real product to offer to families who are celebrating weddings and anniversaries.
To make this game, we went and met many delightful 50th anniversary couples and asked them what kept their marriages together. We have added stories about each couple to provide a few clues to matching their photos. The stories have become conversation starters: funny ways the couples met, how they have or have not changed over time, and their advice for achieving a long, happy marriage.
The game is available at youhaventchangedabit.com.
